Fear the Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, #9)Fear the Darkness by Alexandra Ivy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fear the darkness is the ninth book in the Guardian of Eternity series. This installment brings us Cassie and Caine’s story. Cassie is the sister to Harley, Reagan, and Darcy, the genetically altered were quadruplets. To make Cassie even more special, she is a true prophet, able to see the future, and the only one currently alive. Caine is a cur who died and returned a were. He died freeing Cassie from her imprisonment and has now become her protector. Being a prophet makes Cassie a highly prized commodity in the demon world. She is in most danger from the Dark Lord who is plotting to return to this realm. In this book the prophecy is fulfilled and everyone’s worst fears are realized, the Dark Lord returns. We find out if the Guardians are able to overcome him or if there is now hell on earth.

The relationship between Cassie and Caine is somewhat overshadowed by the confrontation with the Dark Lord but Alexandra Ivy still gives it its due. Caine tries to fit his attraction to Cassie. Once Cassie realizes he’s fighting it, she takes matters into her own hands and seduces him as best she can based on her limited knowledge of sex from romance novels she read during her thirty year captivity.

We get to revisit Styx, Viper, and Salvatore in this book along with their mates. We are also introduced to a couple of new characters, primarily Roke and Gaius, both vampires. Roke is the clan chief of Las Vegas and Gaius was introduced briefly in a previous installment as the traitor of the vampires behind the veil.

With the showdown with the Dark Lord behind us in the book, the series is open to take on a life of its own. The previous books all lead up to this one. The ending does not give us a clue as to what will come next or who the main character will be. We will just have to wait and see…
