Passion Ignites (Dark Kings, #7)Passion Ignites by Donna Grant
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The seventh book in the Dark Kings series does not disappoint. Like all the other Dragon Kings, Thorn is not looking for and does not want a mate but there’s something about Lexi that he can’t ignore. Unlike most humans how follow the Dark Fae in a haze of desire, Lexi is following them to find the one who killed her friend to exact revenge. However, Lexi quickly finds herself the newest target in the burgeoning war between the Kings and the Dark Fae.

The Dark, Ulrik, and Mikkel finally seem to be a step ahead of the Kings. The Kings walked right into a trap in the installation of the series and the ramifications could be dire.

Donna Grant has outdone herself with this book. There are so many agendas among the characters that it’s hard to keep up, in a good way. The best part about series is that it gives the writer time to develop the characters and have the adapt changes and it gives the readers time to really bond with them. With this series, readers will be on bated breath to share in the joys and sorrows of the awesome characters.

Soul Scorched (Dark Kings, #6)Soul Scorched by Donna Grant
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Book six of the Dark Kings series begins with finding out more kings have awakened in preparation for the coming battle with Ulrik. This installment focuses on Warrick whom we met briefly in Night’s Blaze. He is sent to watch over Darcy, a Druid, who garnered the interest of the kings because she is the one who helped Ulrik get some of his magic back. What makes the whole situation complicated is that the Dark Fae are after her although we know that they are in league with Ulrik who still needs her to get more of his magic unbound. Warrick ends up having to protect Darcy from the Dark Fae and the Dragon Kings.

Donna Grant continues to build on the series. There are some big revelations in this installment but also more questions. The series is definitely building up to something huge; there is just no way of knowing exactly how it will unfold at this point. With an influx of new dragon kings the series could continue indefinitely which is a double-edged sword; readers want to see the coming battle but as with all series there is an attachment to the characters you don’t want to end.

Night's Blaze (Dark Kings, #5)Night’s Blaze by Donna Grant
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rhys has had a noticeable presence in all of the previous installments of the Dark Kings series. We finally get his story in Night’s Blaze. At the end of book four, Rhys sustained an injury that could only have been inflicted by another Dragon King. Since Ulrik is supposedly the only unaccounted for King, those at Dreagan have yet another reason to rid the world of him.

Ever since Lily came to work at Dreagan, Rhys has been trying to keep his distance but when he gets word that Lily is in danger, his first thought is go run to her side. Lily is trying to find the person she was before she turned her back on her family and suffered at the hands of Dennis, the man she loved for three years. They didn’t know it but fate set Lily and Rhys on a collision course to help advance the plot of the man set to destroy the Kings.

Donna Grant has delivered the best installment of the series. This book is jammed packed with deceit, twists, turns, and one wallop of a surprise. Be prepared to meet new kings, see Rhi continue to struggle against the rising darkness, and an unforeseen reveal in the plot against the kings.

Hot Blooded (Dark Kings, #4)Hot Blooded by Donna Grant

Sometimes you must see to believe.

Iona and Laith’s story starts with a tragedy but ends with a promise of a happy future for the couple. While they were the focus of the book, there was an abundance of other plotlines in this installment. Rhys is still suffering from the injury he sustained in the last battle with the Dark Fae during Rhi’s rescue. Speaking of Rhi, she is struggling to find herself again after being tortured by Balladyn, someone she considered a brother. The future of the Kings and those around them is uncertain and so far they have more questions than answers.

The Dark Kings series is wonderfully captivating simply because there is nothing else like it out there. For those who love paranormal romance, a series about dragons is an unexpected break from vampires and were-creatures.

Donna Grant has done an excellent job of keeping readers interested by leaving the underlying thread of the series a mystery through four books. The Dragon Kings are a hair’s breath away from war with a still unnamed enemy. Those who have followed the series have a strong suspicion but at this point it could still be anyone.

Burning Desire (Dark Kings, #3)Burning Desire by Donna Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book three of the Dark Kings series takes us to Ireland where Kiril has been living amongst the enemy, the Dark Fae, in hopes of learning who they are conspiring with to destroy the Dragon Kings. He is also hoping to get an indication of where they are holding Rhi so that he can rescue her and hopefully avoid capture.

Shara is trying to get back in her family’s good graces by helping them capture Kiril. She shamed her family and has been under house arrest for over six hundred years. She knows that if she fails to capture Kiril, her family, more specifically her brother, will not hesitate to kill her.

Shara is sent to seduce Kiril and he knows it but neither of them expected to actually fall for the other. However, past betrayals and old insecurities hinder their budding romance and almost cost both of them their lives.

Donna Grant has written another wonderful addition to the series. She expands of the world of the Dark Fae in this installment and provides more insight into Ulrik, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the burgeoning war with the Dragon Kings. The series is propelled forward by the Dark Fae’s obsession with finding a mysterious object the Kings hid and another King taking a mate in spite of Con’s attempts to prevent it.

Darkest Flame (Dark Kings, #1)Darkest Flame by Donna Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Werewolves move over, there are dragon shifters in our midst.

When Denae LaCroix went on her latest mission for MI5, she didn’t know what she was looking for only that she would know when she found it. She definitely didn’t know that it would be her last mission.

Kellen could not get past the betrayal of the humans and instead chose to spend countless centuries sleeping in his cave at Dreagan rather than deal with the world and what it has become. All of that changes when he is awakened by Denae fighting for her life against her partner.

Something or someone has an axe to grind against the Dragon Kings and has gone to great lengths to capture one of them in hopes of finding a mysterious object that few know exist. The Dragon Kings will depend on all of their allies to help them defeat the danger that is knocking on their door.

Donna Grant has given the paranormal genre a burst of fresh air by deviating outside the typical types of shape-shifters like werewolves by giving us dragons. While there isn’t a lot of detail about the world of dragons she has created there is quite a bit of potential for it in future installments. This is a great read for those who enjoy books about shifters who are looking for a new twist.
