“It’s not you, it’s me.” Countless people have heard this sentiment through the eons of time. However, in the case of Matt and Kate, it really is Kate. This is not a story where the female character is being forced to become a submissive because of the male character having issues with the need to control and dominate her. Matt is a dominant so it would seem they would have the perfect relationship since Kate is a submissive. The problem is that Kate just can’t seem to come to grips with the fact that she is a strong, independent woman who naturally becomes submissive in the bedroom.

If there was ever a story of incorrect assumptions and misunderstandings this is it. If the two main characters had had a conversation two years ago there would not have been a book. Kate, not accepting the person she is, jumps at the opportunity to see Matt as a monster and flees. Matt, assuming Kate wants to end the relationship, takes her disappearance and lack of response to his attempts to communicate with her as her way of ending the relationship. They each felt betrayed by the other one.

Both of the characters are very likable and it’s easy to see how they end up in their predicament. Let this book be a lesson in the folly of making assumptions and not communicating.

This is a quick, enjoyable read from Opal Carew.
